SENTINEL ARCHIVE / CASE #196

Venezuela

No national ban. Asbestos use is permitted with endorsement from the Ministry of the Environment or Health, subject to laws requiring employers to guarantee the safety and health of exposed workers. Venezuela is not among the Latin American countries that have banned asbestos (Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Honduras, Uruguay). The government has considered the feasibility of banning asbestos but political instability has limited regulatory progress.
